WCEF Side Event
Background
Countries in ASEAN are moving more and more toward circular economy and decarbonatization. Particularly in the fast-growing ASEAN region, there is an urgent need to decouple economic growth from GHG emissions. Actions must be based on scientific knowledge while simultaneously minimizing impacts on various environmental issues such as air pollution, ocean pollution, and biodiversity preservation across the region. ASEAN and ASEAN countries have a remarkable opportunity to reach economic, environmental and social benefits through advancing the circular economy and carbon neutrality. This event will bridge the global circular economy community and forerunner countries like Finland to support ASEAN in promoting circular economy and carbon neutrality, and create a basis for collaboration and sharing of knowledge and concretely advancing the global transition to a circular economy and carbon neutrality. This concept builds on the work started in 2021 to host a similar event and outcomes in the region.
The event will be organized by Business Finland and Team Finland In Indonesia. The event will be organized under the umbrella and brand of WCEF – the World Circular Economy Forum, which is hosted by Sitra. The event can be officially called a WCEF side event, and it can be tied to the larger umbrella of the WCEF brand and the related activities, topics and discussions in the international field of circular economy. This document is an initial draft for discussion purposes and it is subject to changes.
Time & place
Event is to be held in Jakarta, Indonesia, 8-9 th of November, 2023 (tentatively at Shangrila Hotel).
The physical event could host, for example, between 100 – 150 guests. There is a possibility to broadcast the event or parts of the event.
Objectives of the event
- To support the ASEAN countries and ASEAN in their journey towards a more circular economy and carbon neutrality.
- To exchange best practices, share knowledge, build relationships and speed up the global and ASEAN region shift towards a circular economy and carbon neutrality.
- To provide an opportunity for collaboration and new initiatives among the participants and stakeholders of the event and to activate the Indonesian actors around circularity and carbon neutrality.
- To contribute to ASEAN Community Vision 2025 and promote the Sustainable Development Goals
