Overview

In preparation for the upcoming ASEAN Regional Dialogue on Circular Economy, representatives from the ASEAN Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform (ACESP)—under the ASEAN Centre for Sustainable Development Studies and Dialogue (ACSDSD)—conducted a series of bilateral coordination and technical preparation meetings in Manila, Philippines.

The primary objective of this mission was to strengthen regional partnerships, align policy frameworks, and finalize logistical and content arrangements ahead of the flagship regional dialogue scheduled for late September 2026.

Day 1 Summary: Institutional Partnerships & Youth Engagement (26 August 2026)

The delegation engaged with strategic development partners and academic institutions to explore future avenues for collaborative research, agricultural sustainability, and youth leadership:

  • Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) Philippines: Discussions focused on joint initiatives targeting agricultural waste management, regional waste reduction strategies, and sustainable resource management frameworks. Sincere appreciation is extended to Mr. Marcel Silvius, Mr. John Anthony Cruz, and Ms. Zahra Mutiara for their insightful contributions and warm reception.

  • Ateneo Institute of Sustainability (AIS): The dialogue centered on joint programs designed to empower youth leadership and accelerate student-led circular economy initiatives across higher education networks. Special thanks to Dr. Antonio and Dr. Emmanuel D. Delocado for their hospitality and collaborative support.

Day 2 Summary: Technical Coordination & Event Alignment (31 August 2026)

The second phase of the mission focused on technical synchronization and policy alignment with core government entities, implementation agencies, and private sector initiatives:

  • Key Stakeholders Consulted:

    • Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB)

    • Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ Philippines)

    • Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI Philippines)

    • Expertise France

    • Plastic Reboot

These sessions underscored the critical role of multi-stakeholder collaboration in translating high-level policy frameworks into actionable, ground-level circular economy solutions across the ASEAN region.
