The Department of ASEAN Affairs, in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, the ASEAN BCG Network and the ASEAN Centre for Sustainable Development Studies and Dialogue, organised the webinar entitled ASEAN Bio-Circular-Green Economy Knowledge Sharing Series: Introductory Session on Putting the Concept into Practice on 14 March 2022. Over 140 participants from public sector, private companies, university network and civil societies across ASEAN attended the webinar.
On this occasion, Dr. Lily Eurwilaichitr, Vice President of National Science and Technology Development Agency of Thailand and Dr. Panachit Kittipanya-Ngam, former President of Thailand Tech Startup Association, elucidated the rationale and perspectives on how the BCG Concept can support sustainable development agenda in ASEAN. Presentations from various speakers also showcased examples of how private sector and civil society in Thailand apply the BCG concept in practice, ranging from innovation by the NSTDA for value-added rubber production, online marketplace by MoreLoop to promote reusing textile wastes, plastic wastes recycling campaign by WON Project, upcycling used fishing nets into designed products by Qualy, and community food rescue programme by SOS Foundation Thailand. The webinar provided an excellent platform for participants not only to gain a more in-depth and practical understanding of the BCG concept but also to foster network and exchange perspectives on promoting sustainable development in ASEAN.
