The ACESP of ACSDSD at the Seminar on Thailand’s Path towards Circular Economy and Knowledge Sharing Workshop on EU Circular Economy Regulations

The ASEAN Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform (ACESP), represented by Dr. Anthony Pramualratana, Deputy Executive Director, and Dr. Treesuvit Arriyavat, Senior Project Manager, from the ASEAN Centre for Sustainable Development Studies and Dialogue (ACSDSD), actively participated in the Circular Economy Seminar held on 17–18 September 2025 in Bangkok.

The seminar gathered policymakers, industry representatives, researchers, and international experts to discuss Thailand’s circular economy policy landscape alongside the European Union’s new regulations—the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) and the Eco-design for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR)
Key highlights included:

  • Policy exchange on how Thailand can align with the EU’s evolving sustainability requirements to remain competitive in global value chains.
  • Breakout sessions on ESPR and PPWR, with implications for Thai industries such as electronics, textiles, tyres, and food packaging.
  • Capacity-building workshops on the Digital Product Passport (DPP) and sustainable packaging practices, supporting Thai stakeholders in preparing for EU market compliance.

Dr. Treesuvit emphasized that these developments are crucial not only for Thailand’s transition but also for ASEAN’s regional shift towards a circular economy. The EU’s regulatory framework underscores the urgency of eco-design, recyclability, reuse, and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) systems, offering both challenges and opportunities for ASEAN businesses and governments.
Their participation reflects ACESP’s role as a regional knowledge hub, connecting ASEAN stakeholders with global best practices and ensuring that the region’s circular economy transition is inclusive, competitive, and future-ready.
