Webinar I: Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for E-Waste from Renewable Energy Components
Policies, Instruments, and ASEAN Recommendations
As ASEAN Member States accelerate the deployment of renewable energy technologies—such as solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, wind turbines, and battery energy storage systems (BESS)—the region is expected to face a rapid increase in end-of-life (EoL) renewable energy components in the coming years. Managing this emerging e-waste stream is critical to ensuring a just, circular, and sustainable energy transition.
This webinar will explore Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) as a key policy and governance instrument to support circular economy objectives and effective e-waste management for renewable energy components in ASEAN.
The session builds directly on the outcomes of the Technical Training on E-Waste Management of Renewable Energy Components held in Bangkok in October 2025 under the ASEAN–EU–German Climate Action Programme (CAP), responding to strong demand from stakeholders for deeper policy guidance, global best practices, and ASEAN-relevant recommendations.
Objectives
The webinar aims to:
-
Present global developments and best practices on EPR systems for renewable energy e-waste;
-
Provide an overview of key policy instruments and regulatory approaches for managing end-of-life RE components;
-
Share emerging ASEAN-level policy recommendations informed by research findings and stakeholder consultations; and
-
Collect participant inputs to help refine and validate ASEAN-relevant policy directions.
Expected Outcomes
-
Enhanced understanding of how EPR approaches can be adapted to the ASEAN context;
-
Consolidated ASEAN-oriented policy recommendations on renewable energy e-waste management; and
-
Strengthened regional dialogue on coordinated governance approaches for renewable energy-related e-waste.
Target Participants
-
Renewable Energy Sub-Sector Network (RE-SSN)
-
Regional Energy Policy and Planning (REPP-SSN)
-
ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE)
-
ASEAN Secretariat (Energy and Minerals Division)
-
Private sector representatives (industry, ESCOs, and related stakeholders)
-
