Single-Use Plastic Ban in Bogor

Type: Strategy and Policies
Key Area: Reuse Waste management
Country: Indonesia

Single-Use Plastic Ban in Bogor

In the Mayor’s Regulation No. 61 of 2018 on Reducing the Use of Plastic Bags, the rule is spelled out. The mayor of Bogor established this restriction because plastic has become one of the main sources of waste in the city of Bogor. 13% of the daily 450–500 tonnes of garbage are plastic-based materials. The estimates do not account for rubbish that is dumped illegally or that is not picked up by the cleaning crew.

Overall, the legislation banning single-use plastic bags at 23 contemporary merchants succeeded in cutting down on the daily production of 1,7 tonnes of plastic waste. Around 41 tonnes of plastic garbage have been reduced overall thanks to the regulation.
